a brief introduction to Origami Arktika

"I found out about Origami Republika through Jarboe. They're difficult to explain, more of a worldwide movement than an organization of artists. They're not just musicians; they're filmmakers, painters, collagists, writers, performers, & ordinary people. Origami Arktika is simply one branch of the whole contingent, which consists of hundreds of branches. Origami Arktika is all about making massive sounds from minimal equipment." - Brian John Mitchell

For over twenty years Origami Arktika has combined the traditional sounds of norwegian folk music with experimental & drone music to make beautiful hybrid sounds that are uniquely their own.

7 tracks, 44 minutes

Absolut Geh÷r manages to fuse elements of drone, industrial noise, folk and jazz in a heady, surreal mix that evokes the sound of the post-apocaylpyse; in other words, melancholy, anxious, unsettled & yet possessing a hushed beauty.
~ William Ruben Helms, The Joy of Violent Movement

Our favorite experimental Norwegian folk droners return.  Fans of post rock, psych, drone, & lofi should take note of this if they know the language or not.

Music as diverse as their homeland’s geography, bridging old world sounds with modern technology. Silicates and stones run through samplers. Artifact flutes poured through electronic processors.
