Reviews: Thorn1 is a solo artist based in Siberia. I mention his location because I believe that our environment subconsciously influences our actions. The version of Was Ist Das? that I created in the rural surroundings of Hebben Bridge was aesthetically very different from the one I made in the post-industrial landscape of Huddersfield. I believe you can feel the unique atmosphere of Thorn1's world in his music. Opening number "Now My Clothes Has Your Smell And I Am The One Who Wants To Be Saved" is the perfect synergy of Natural Snow Buildings uncomfortable lo-fi dreamscapes & the icy majesty of The Cure circa Seventeen Seconds. The second song "O" is quite complex. It begins with an intricate haunting arpeggio of keyboards. Then some subtle frigid guitar sneaks in. Then a slow drum machine kicks in followed a few moments later by a heavier guitar sound - one part Metallica, one part My Bloody Valentine. The drum machine becomes more aggressive. It is bleak but very beautiful. The way life can be sometimes. This, in a nutshell, is the music of Thorn1 - the natural sound of the sensitive dreamer who is acutely aware of their surroundings yet struggles to find the same understanding granted to their self. The mixture of beauty & rage is as complimentary & contradictory as the albums impossible combination of enormous ambition, high technology, & yet raw live sound. I am trying my best, but you have to hear Oblivion to understand what it is & how it can exist. Wonderful stuff. ~ Was Ist Das? Когда за окном выпал первый снег и я впервые послушал эту пластинку, то она пришлась кстати. Хлопья снега падали и падали,покрывая Бийскую грязь, а я не переставал прокручивать треки на "шафле" снова и снова. И не потому что я люблю грустную музыку, а потому что эта пластинка по настоящему красива и изыскана как в атмосфере, так и в звуке. Мультиинструменталист Евгений Жейда из Павловска стал приобретать свой, узнаваемый звук, собственный облик и неповторимую неподдельность атмосферы. Зачатки всего этого были и на его дебютной прошлогодней пластинке, но на новом ЕР получили полное развитие и вылились в один из красивейших релизов уходящего года. Многослойность звучания окунает в свой, полный снежных хлопьев, тонкого льда полярных пустынь и красоты северного сияния мир, звуки которого сплетаются в непрерывную череду петляющих по снегу следов отставшего от экспедиции странника. Когда закончился последний трек снег за окном уже давно перестал падать, полностью покрыв белоснежным покрывалом вчерашнюю грязь и мусор, беспечно разбросанный по улице...всего этого больше не было, оно исчезло под чистейщим, белым, свежим.
