“I was afraid of this,” Steve says opening a bottle of liquor he just found
in the last room we had to search in the building. “This means she’s
probably underground.”
“What are you talking about?”
“There’s another group of dirtbags that lives underground downtown.”
“So we just killed off half the city for nothing?”
“No, they had it coming. They were a bunch of jack-asses. They
were the guys who took out the building downtown. The undergrounders
though, they’re the really screwed up ones. These guys worked for
them. They gathered food & supplies for them. The undergrounders
were rich before, the city council & stuff, & they bought all the
bullets & fuel in town & hoarded it down there.”
