Reviews:
MISTER SCIENCE is a burst of joyous noise. Is this serious? Of course not ‘Five Educational Minutes’ goes for a more playful approach. The play in these five tracks is very evenly distributed with plenty of memorable melodies, goofy breakdowns, and a great deal of half-broken beat strewn across the whole thing. More than a few times the five songs feel like they want to completely collapse. Yet some elastic sound keeps it all in check making sure it comes across appropriately.
‘Electrode Potential’ opens it with an epic swell. This is before the bizarre dance track ‘Hypothesis Theory’ arrives giving things a considerably weirder feel. From here on out the beats take a larger part of the puzzle. On ‘Entomology’ things begin to get considerably more active. Samples weave themselves into the melody which appears to be more based around the beat than any other logical progression. ‘Isometric View’ is the ambient interlude from all the beat driven madness. Finally the entire piece ends with the oddly cinematic ‘Pharmacokinetics’. This finishes off what is a surprisingly eclectic and diverse range of five songs. In fact the EP is perfect balanced almost between its more ambient segments and beat-driven madness.
‘Five Educational Minutes’ is an aggressively silly EP. That’s clear in the music, clear in the execution, heck; it is even clear in the name itself. Constantly morphing loops (which itself is amazing given the limited playtime) alongside the dollops of humor make it oddly memorable.

The creative entity MISTER SCIENCE is one of which no actual knowledge exist at this point in time. This project made itself known in 2012 with the release of the EP “Five Educational Minutes”, released on US label Silber Records as a part of an experimental series of EPs made under the condition 5 songs in 5 minutes.
Mister Science, whoever they may be, solves this task in a very elegant manner. Five constructions each about a minute long, which works out as follows: An enticing drone with minimalistic rhythm and melody effects, one set of oscillating and surging electronic textures flavored with cosmic effects and a compelling rhythm backbone, one set of a compelling rhythm spiced with distorted, futuristic noises, one minimalistic lead motif gradually distorted into increasingly futuristic sounding textures with cosmic effects on top, and at last a majestic dronelike noise that gives way to an enticing sequences rhythm with careful resonating minimalistic melodic effects applied. Enticing and compelling snippets of sound all, where the major negative aspect is that all of these ideas ideally should have been explored more thoroughly and in depth.
A five minute long EP that should appeal to those who like instrumental electronic music of the minimalistic variety, and in particular those who prefer music of that kind to have a futuristic sound.
